A new lingerie line, Cherie Amie, will soon be available online before the holiday season begins. The company is going to be the first fair-trade lingerie company that has adopted the special Good Returns business model, which returns part of the profit to help with projects in Africa.

Tara Smith, cofounder of the company, traveled abroad with the Peace Corp and wanted to develop a lingerie line that used Good Returns business model and fair trade principles, allowing women to know that every purchase helps other women in poverty. She’s working to launch a company that actually gives back and helps to empower women.

The company plans to contribute all of their year end profits to specific non-profit organizations that provide loans to those women trying to start a business or get further education. It also works to empower women by using artisans that are located in Cameroon, West Africa, paying them good wages and offering good working conditions. Also, 10% of the net income of the company is going to be given to Peace Tree Africa, helping with various projects on the African continent.
